Description

This volume contains two of the greatest Sherlock Holmes novels penned by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, together with six of his other shorter classic tales. The Hound of the Baskervilles is the classic detective chiller. The Baskerville family is haunted by a phantom beast which roams the mist enshrouded wilds of Dartmoor. Now the hound seems to be stalking the young Sir Henry, new heir to the Baskerville estate. Is this devilish spectre the manifestation of the family curse? Or is Sir Henry the victim of a vile and scheming murderer? Only Sherlock Holmes can solve the mystery. The Sign of the Four, the second Holmes novel, presents the detective with one of his greatest challenges - solving the theft of the great Agra treasure in India. A Scandal in Bohemia was the first Holmes short story and introduces Irene Adler. It was published in June 1891.. The Red-Headed League, Doyle's second most favorite Holmes story, was published in August 1891. The Five Orange Pips, one of only two short stories where Holmes' client dies, was published in November 1891. The Man with the Twisted Lip, Doyle's sixteenth favorite Holmes story, was published in December 1891. The Blue Carbuncle, a near priceless gem, was published in January 1892. Silver Blaze, containing the phrase 'the curious incident of the dog in the night-time', is about a racehorse and was published in February 1892. All the above short stories first appeared in Strand Magazine.
